When The Body Speaks
My Da Nang Journey
WELLNESS

I had envisioned my 56th birthday in Da Nang as a tapestry of rituals—sunrise views, cultural explorations, dining in Hoi An, and quiet moments of reflection by the sea. My travel partner and I planned each detail with care, weaving meaning into every stop. Yet life had other plans.
Three out of five days, I found myself in bed cold, feverish and weak. My body, worn down from months of nonstop activity since October 2025, finally demanded rest. I had already fallen ill in May and never fully recovered. July was the breaking point.
At first, I felt disappointment. I had wanted this trip to be a celebration, a symbolic arc of renewal. Mostly, I wanted it to be extra special for a client now a dear friend, Nat. Instead, it became a lesson in surrender. To add to my misery (being dramatic), I did not pack my aromatherapy first aid kit for this trip!
Illness is never convenient, but it is often instructive. My body reminded me that immunity is not infinite, that rest is not indulgence but necessity. In Bazi terms, this was a Water moment—stillness, wisdom, and replenishment after too much Fire.
Though I missed many sights, sounds and food, the trip was not wasted. It became a mirror, reflecting the imbalance I had carried for months. It showed me that rituals are not only about sunrise hikes or temple visits—they are also about listening inward, honoring the body’s call.
Returning home, I realized the true gift of Da Nang was not the itinerary but the pause. It was a reminder to slow down, to rebuild, to prepare for the next season with strength.
Travel does not always unfold as planned. Sometimes the most meaningful journeys are the ones that force us to stop, to breathe, to heal. My Da Nang trip was not the celebration I imagined, but it was the reset I needed.
If you find yourself in a season of exhaustion, let your body speak. Rest is not failure—it is wisdom. And wisdom, like scent, lingers long after the moment has passed.
With love, xoxo
